Manchester congestion charge

Cambridge is earmarked also - if it goes ahead I will have to pay to use my car even to leave Cambridge - even not if im going into the city.

And I live over 2 miles out of the very edge of the city (Cambridge is tiny aswell)- disgraceful :(

I think motorists already pay their way (and some!)

Does it mean there would be compensation if there were delays caused by congestion?

The authority must publish a journey time as part of the deal and pay you a substantial penalty charge if your journey takes 2 minutes longer - for whatever reason! (a bit like a parking meter).

If your journey time is 20 minutes longet than published you get a Police escort and a large penalty charge (say £300.00) and you get 3 penalty points wiped from your licence....

Ooops getting a bit silly now eh?

Road pricing - NO NO NO!

I am worried about the big brother aspect of CC's.

I go into the CC zone @ a certain time, then leave a few hrs later. The state will know how long I've been in the city center, and then with CCTV peice an acurate picture of my movements. Scary isn't it.

And take a fiver off me for road space I pay a 4-5fold premium on as it is.

Who fancies making a petition on the government website to lobby against this, and to campaign for future legistlation to block CC is onther cities.

Any reason why the state should be interested in those particular movements?

No, but the "i've got nothing to hide so I don't mind camera's everywhere" view is IMO spineless and shows a lack of pride and self respect. Its a complete breach of privacy.

Yes I disapprove, but realistically what can you do about it, any government will have passed it sooner or later.

Petition them, make yourseld heard, then at least you tried. I sense a letter to my MP this weekend, again.

I think this lot will definitely be out next election .

Already voted out in Scotland, I'm surprised they lasted as long elsewhere.

Russ

edinburgh had a vote on congesting charging and it was thrown out.

Lets hope this stays down south and the scottish councils don't get ideas!

Apart from the non-driving anti car crowd, do any drivers actually approve the Con Charge?

I am confused by this congestion charge fiddle dreamed up by councillors. They created the congestion by allowing offices shops and businesses to be built within their cities. People need access to get to work or do their shopping and anyone with a single brain cell would know that many will drive and need to park their cars near where they shop or work.

On this basis the councillors and their planners should pay everyones congestion charges, being the guity parties.:bannana: :bannana:

Assuming no junctions. Bugger.

And the busses would be slower....

But more traffic could use the lanes and could access the junctions. The buses would be slower, but your point is?
