oil level - have i topped up too much?

hi all, i have an e320 cdi (2003).

i've topped up the oil and the level is now showing as 7.3.

just wondering if this is too much as I know too much can damage the engine?

I assume that yours does not have the oil level sensor. I overfilled a vehicle we had to what I thought was the top on the dipstick. The sensor registered it as overfilled and had to have some extracted. The mechanic who did it told me they never fill to maximum when doing an oil change as it will always register as overfilled. However this does not state what level will cause engine damage but I would think that it would obviously be good sense to keep the level clearly below maximum.

That's interesting as mine is also overfilled at the maximum mark on the dipstick. To back that up it takes at least 6.5 L to get to the max mark when the stated capacity is 5.5 L
