Hi All, first post in a while. My 2004 ML270 has decided to lose the ability (most of the time) to go beyond 2500rpm and that causes a loss of power, especially when trying to overtake.

I think I already know the answer to my question here, but thought I'd ask anyway. I have it booked in to both an independent Merc specialist and a local garage on Monday having already told them that the MAF sensors are the most likely cause. Is there really any benefit of the Merc specialists doing the work?? The local garage have stated they have a diagnostics machine to plug in to the car but it's not STAR. It's just that I have a much longer journey to the MB specialist so need to make sure I'm going to get a massive benefit from it.

Thanks.

Personally, I would replace the maf sensor which is a serviceable part and usually needs replacing sooner or later, the cost of a maf (from eurocarparts) will be a similar cost to a star diagnosis and is the most likely cause of your problem (obviously, there are many other possibilities)

Another one for the MAF sensor and/or the fuel filter, ECP and CP4L has the Pierburg air flow meter's on for £49.80 at the mo and a fuel filter is around £13-£20, swap them both and dont forget to prime the filter. Just done the same job on my CLK 270 CDI and running great again....after not being able to pinpoint the problem on STAR due to both items causing problems. Hopefully that should sort your ML and if it doesn't its removed two of the causes for less than £70. Also an EGR decoke would be a good idea.

Maf as well

Can the EGR valve be the only cause of the problem ? I am experiencing similar issue with our GL 420 CDI and according to the star reading it is the left EGR valve causing the problem. Cleaned it with the bardhal EGR valve cleaning kit but hasn't cured the problem ... Unless I now have a problem with the right EGR valve ? Does anyone know of a better cleaner to use with having to remove the valves ?

what about the same on ml 320 with lpg system, right bank drivers side, maf changed and lamda but the problem presists any clues misfire error and locks up after maxing out on errors

cataclean cleaned sorted peroblem above
