I have been having a intermittent fault on my 2002 ML270 which has now become permenant. Basically the car will not rev above 3000rpm and feels to have no boost. It also wont kickdown.

The only fault I can find is the MAF sensor. This appears to be running at a default value and show no fluctuation throughout the rev range or variations in load.

Has anyone had a faulty MAF sensor before and if so would these symptoms sound familiar?.

Many thanks in advance for any help..

Sounds like a MAF sensor to me mate, is the fault frequency high?

Yes it coming back with a signal voltage to high. Fault codes P0100 B2/5 MAF SENSOR.

Just thought I may be looking for more than one problem..

Thanks.

I'm sure if you really want to find another fault you will do, but why look, go with the obvious.;)

Sounds like a maf fault to me too.

Only cost approx £60 from MB.

Got a new Pierberg MAF sensor today. Fitted and back running like new.. Should keep the misses happy for the school run!

Thanks for help!

I have a C220 cdi, with a Similar problem!

BUT I wish it was the MAF Sensor (As it would be a Simple Fix)

Using my OBD2 Scanner, I Used the Live data feature, & can see the MAF readings are fluctuating, approx 8g idle & around 40g driving around!

I have tryed looking for leaking air pipes, Next on my list are the Vacum pipes, But cant tell them from working or not???

my car drives fine until warmish them goes into safety mode, making me unable to drive above 3000rpm!

Have you had the catalyst checked out? I know the Mercs are prone to the catalyst braking up and causing the car to slip into the safety mode which wont allow the engine to rev above 3000rpm..

Good luck!

Hi there, had you tried removing the MAF to see if in fact it was this problem.. I had a mechanic disconnect the MAF and tell me that it was not the sensor at fault, he had no diagnostic gear with him to prove it so I have my doubts.. My instinct is to buy a sensor but dont want to throw money away ( they are about 120 quid here ) D
