What is this ticking

Huge technical question here.

Does anybody know what the ticking tube with wires going into it is in my C55 engine bay.

It is on the N/S inner wing between the battery tray and the headlight and looks like a 6" long tube. It has it's own bracket. It ticks loudly like an injector and can be heard above normal engine sound at idle.

Not sure if it should be ticking so loudly or if it should tick at all.

What does a the heater duo valve do and should it be loud enough to be heard inside the car?

I'd agree, duo valve. I recall there was a modified bracket for customers who complained of the noise transmitting into the vehicle, I would have thought the C55 would have the modified bracket as standard though being a facelift car.
