    Preserving a lump sum?

It's always easy to "spend" someone else's money, and in this case providing advice is easy as it's no risk to anyone but you. Holding any amount of money in cash is silly. It's good that you've realised this! The only cash I would hold is my salary and a little extra should an emergency arise...

Better than money in the bank?

Better than money in the bank? Colour aside, it looks to be in astonishing condition. MERCEDES-BENZ W124 3.0 12v 6 cylinder AUTOMATIC, 4MATIC 7 SEATER ESTATE | eBay I like the spare fuel tank option it has as well... those are rare indeed. I wander what he means by "needs some mechanical...

    What new £20k diesel 4x4?

Skoda Yeti? You can extend the warranty to 5 years. Probably have some change too...

Textar E pads. Low dust performance pads.

I'd be interested to see how these compare with the other "low dust" pads on the market. I tried the Green stuff pads once... I was quite disappointed at how quickly they needed replacing. The ATE ones sound good if they do deliver long life to both pad and disk.

    Parcels to Greece

+1 for Interparcel. :thumb: I recently did just this. Although it wasn't as big. It was a wine box size that weighed 4Kg. It went via UPS and was there in 7 days. Circa £25 to Thessaloniki. You can track it all the way too. PS. I'd avoid Royal Mail - they've let me down on more than one...

Buying a private plate (on retention)

Thanks. That's good to know. One final question - if the plate is on my car for a while, I would be able to put it back on retention and that would be in my name, not the previous "retainer"?

Buying a private plate (on retention)

Thanks so much for the advice. I've never done it before I just want to make sure I don't make any stupid mistakes. I was hoping to keep it on retention for a few months and then put it on a new car. I guess I need to ensure that there is sufficient time on the certificate to enable this to...

Buying a private plate (on retention)

Hi Peeps, I've seen a registration plate advertised(privately) on the internet that is currently on retention. (Whatever that means?) Having had a look on the DVLA site, I think it means that the registration number isn't currently assigned to a vehicle and could be if the person named on the...

    Thinking of upgrading my W203

Do you know where the car has done the mileage? I'd probably have second thoughts if it had done 18k in an inner city stuck in constant traffic... 18k in the country is a different matter. I normally make up my mind after meeting the previous owner. Do you know anything about them?

Oldest year of car you would consider buying/owning

I run my 1993 W201 2.5D auto as a daily driver and it is great. Depreciation is virtually nil. Averages 44Mpg on my 25 mile commute each way. I haven't taken the plunge into veg oil motoring, but at 44Mpg I don't think I need to.

Best Netbook or Mini Laptop Thing

Have a look at the Acer timeline series. I've recently bought one and I'm chuffed to bits with it. They're about an inch thick and battery lasts up to 8 hours.

Scotland set to leave in 2014

Good question - difficult answer. I think Salmond would have us believe they have no debt. Few politicians make me feel as uneasy as that man. He does spout some venom.
