I just averaged 32.5 mpg US (exceeded 40 mpg UK) on a 1000 mile roadtrip in the W123 300D Automatic. Measured with recorded numbers attached. Not bad for a 38 year old car!
On a pre-99 MB diesel, I recommend the following 10 steps to achieve this:

Halfords does an incredibly good cover with a poly thermal lining. In my experience, this does a good job protecting from minor impacts vs the cheaper options out there.
Quite right.
I don't take the sharing of negative experiences lightly. Attached are images of my W123 before Mark Cosovich's involvement. No show car but far from "a heap" as you suggest. Clearly, you're either Marksquerading or you've been misled by our favourite conman.
I am currently a...
Final step in removing rear end suspension sag - new OE MB rear spring top rubbers. Note the 3 dots on the MB rubber bushing to identify the maximum thickness.

Lovely car! I own a W115 240d which I have recently fully restored. Your main sourcing challenge will be the door seals. For the other mechanicals, I worked with Paul at Holford Motors to get the brakes, cooling system and motor flushed and back to peak operating condition. This was not as...
Most of the comments on this thread are posts from the very opinionated yet inexperienced when it comes to the product. I've posted a thread on here that covers the best additives for Classic vehicles, including my experience with MOS2 oil.
In short, it's the best engine oil money can buy for...
Diesel vehicle performance on unaltered waste soybean oil blended with petroleum fuels
Really impressive result. 30% looks to be the sweet spot. A bit more research shows that:
1) I'm about 15 years late to the vegetable oil revolution
2) Sunflower oil appears to be superior to Soybean for...
While I agree it is going to take time to divert manufacturing away from China, made in China is not the same as owned by China.
The latter is where the ethical, moral and engineering shortcuts exist in multiples, which is why I would never recommend purchasing a China owned brand's product...
