CL500 - is it worth restoring?

    Much appreciated, thank you.

CL500 - is it worth restoring?

Thanks. It would no doubt be more than adequate for me too. Certainly in the short term.

CL500 - is it worth restoring?

Sorry for not knowing any better, but it that a C216 in your picture?

CL500 - is it worth restoring?

You’re right. I do love this car. And I’d happily spend all £10k in it (hopefully not all at once) if I knew it would then last another 10 years.

CL500 - is it worth restoring?

I’ve seen the coilovers available in the US. It’s the removal of the hydraulic system that worries me. I believe it starts with changing the power steering pump and basically working along the system methodically. Some reviews say that it ruins the ride quality. I prefer to think that it’s...

CL500 - is it worth restoring?

It was always the appeal of the pillerless coupe for me originally. But I’ve never driven an S class, so you can never say never....

CL500 - is it worth restoring?

    An essential B plan.

CL500 - is it worth restoring?

Beautiful car. Estimates would sadly put it beyond my reach. The Mrs would kill me if I bought that.

CL500 - is it worth restoring?

Thank you. I’m really not the most technically minded, if anything quite the opposite. More mechanically minded. The more basic the better for me. Do you find the icarsoft adequate for most of your requirements?

CL500 - is it worth restoring?

Great advice, thank you. I’ll start by doing my research first this time. No impulse buys.

CL500 - is it worth restoring?

Sorry, I wasn’t very specific. To say I’m a bit wet behind the ears when it comes to luxury coupes is an understatement. For as long as I can remember, I’d wanted a Mercedes coupe. As I grew older, newer models came out, dreams changed and so on. This c215 is my first big engined coupe, and I’m...

CL500 - is it worth restoring?

Thank you. Clearly a man of incredible knowledge and skills. Sorry if my last comment seemed condescending in any way. I’m truly grateful for your opinions.

CL500 - is it worth restoring?

Thanks, I’m going to see one on Monday. If you don’t mind, could I ask you a question? I’m assuming from your answer that you either work with Mercedes or at least, have a very good knowledge of the different models. Of all the big engined coupes, which would you say are the best to own?

Is there a particular one that you would recommend?

CL500 - is it worth restoring?

If it’s got to be off the road, ideally I’d only like it to be off the road once. Do all the main jobs in one hit as it were. Crystal ball not included. I’ve been on phone with a friend this morning, and he’s convincing me to persevere, but the right parts, but keep trawling through the...

CL500 - is it worth restoring?

Only as a second car. I always keep it road legal. I accept that it might need to be taken off the road for a while. Mine and everyone else’s safety must come first though.

CL500 - is it worth restoring?

There’s quite a broad price range from what I’ve seen. Anywhere from £4K right up to £20k for pristine, low mileage example. I do tend to look for private sales over a dealer. You can learn more about what you’re getting into from talking to a current owner than you can by a visual inspection on...

CL500 - is it worth restoring?

I’ve not had much luck in researching changing the heater matrix so far. I’m assuming it will require taking the dash out. And the main reason for using a specialist with the suspension is to save it from being off the road for a prolonged period of time. Given enough time, I’m sure I could fix...

CL500 - is it worth restoring?

I don’t mind losing money so much, as it’s already giving me so much enjoyment. And as a doner car, it’s only really good for mechanicals, body panels. And yes you’re right, another car could bring the same set of problems. I’m really on the fence with this one. Sure, the CL is a great looking...
