Dave, The factory had two issues around that time, prototype Elan Turbo's with the infamous plastic screen over the rear plate which "misted up" so you couldn't read the number running around Hethel ! Police got edgy and if you remember there was a "gentlemans agreement" to change this - then...

I am very fortunate in that 1 The old man before he passed away use to work at Ketteringham spraying the old style JPS Lotus, so usually get a ticket out of Jonny Herbert every year 2 I worked for them at the factory car side for 10 years and occasionaly get a ticket via there 3 And most...

Well, what done it for you?

    E Class driving experience.

It sounds to me like you would be best off for your own piece of mind, going to a dealer for a diagnostic on the steering suspension. They charge around half to an hour fee's dependant on test drive and can check the bushes, dampers, drag link etc.. that are mentioned. Mine came down to bad...

    OT - Missing you....

Pammy, I'm no expert at this I like it all plug and play ! Here's what I did to a friends NTL connection with two Win xp machines. Had one pc the "main" one ready to go, turn off the modem and router wait a couple of mins Turned on the modem, let it shake hands with NTL the NTL software/...

    Dealership Satisfaction Shock Horror.

I think it's a load of Bull. They can and have (on mine) cured this problem completely. All cars will go a little to the camber but should not "pull" or you have to drive with the wheel pointing right to stay straight. If the equipment they have is calibrated, with a quality guy who knows how...

    Dealership Satisfaction Shock Horror.

That's exactly the point most dealers miss. I for one take a personal recommendation very seriously. They, the dealer have now got free advertising, a customer over the moon who will look at any potential new purchase from them, other guys who are already Mercedes customers potentially going...

    Mileage on auto gearbox

Interesting thread regarding changing oil to us new MB guys. When I dropped the sump on a BM's box the magnets in the tray were the size of golf balls and the fluid not nice! When cleaned they were literally about half inch by quarter long so it shows how much rubbish was being picked up. I...

    Grrr! mercedesdirect at Hemel Grrr!

Nasty story, it appears then the "MB Network" have differing standards as with other brands. I can accept slighty differing charges for services etc... eg Lexus Hatfield quote £900 for 63K service, Lexus Norwich quote £ 540 however preparation of cars for sale, and all checks should be the...

    Kinky's gearbox ....

I suppose so but more often than not there is a lot of thought that goes onto these things even if they are temporary. Being in the new model intro business for manufacturing last 17 years I've seen some strange things come and go. I'll keep looking as to why an engine would "die" if the air...

    Kinky's gearbox ....

This type of air recirculation along with exhaust gas recirculation was fitted to an old Volvo I had once (264 V6). It was explained to me once that a % of the exhaust gas was sent round again to burn anything left and then the air pump would blow basically fresh air into the exhaust manifolds...

    What's this symptomatic of ?

For my own knowledge, as I'm new to MB do they suffer sticking brake callipers, suspension bush failures, busting ball joints ? (All potential wheel wobblers) I had all three on both a BMW and Lexus, so you can understand wishing to know a little more! Thanks

    Any similar experiences ?

Thanks for the prompt reply, I saw that link to the "expensive" MB tool earlier on. This is beginning to look rather not like a DIY job unless I can make a tool out of a couple of the old compressors to go in through the top ie from the inside. Even assuming I could drop it in from the top...

    Any similar experiences ?

Before you posted I had already ordered springs from ECP. These are now being returned as the fronts were about 3 inches higher than mine and there was a difference in height between the new rears (compared to each other ) of about an inch, basically I ain't happy with the quality of them. I...

    Toyos

Had a set of Assymetric P Zero on a previous car, a little noisy but well grippy although not as much as I thought in the wet. Mind you I had the assymetrics alround, they say to put assy on the front and Rosso on the rear is better but at those prices who can mess about! I would buy them again

    Steering alignment

All the camber / castor is adjustable on mine, front and rear, I know cause MB just done it ! I can only think they are put off in case somethings siezed and if they break it = big bills. Any decent road race / rally prep firm should have these full alignment machines although you may well...

    Toyos

Very suprised to hear the SO3 only lasted 8k. I had a full set 265/40/17 315/35/17 on an Alpina 7 series. That car is driven well especially the cornering, they've been on for 14K and have 5mm alround left. They are a harder compound than people think and the performance is only just starting to...
