Newbie - Large repair bill as 1st time Mercedes customer

They don't seem to have changed much over the years - I had a SL back in 2005 under Extended Warranty and had to pay £400 for a SRS wiring fault. In this instance I would absolutely take this to the Small Claims Court - let them turn up and defend their position.

If you are happy with the Ring RAC635, why don't you just buy one of these? https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07GWQ1MTS/?tag=amazon0e9db-21

    New vs old

I've still got the Vehicle Release Note for my 1st Merc, a 2.0 190e delivered on the 21/3/1990. The list price was £19,245 which was pitched at a tax break point at that time - in todays money that is £50k according to inflation calculators. It had plastic wheel trims, cloth seats, no...

Ex Top Gear trio move to Amazon.....

My kids assure me that Prime is totally lame (Netflix aka Nettie is far superior apparently), so I'm not sure how many people will stump up £79 just to watch Clarkson & Co?? We have Prime by the way, but purely for the free delivery.

350 CGI (M72) strange noise at the back

The balance shaft problem doesn't cause any untoward noise, lower MPG (mine rarely ever went above 20mpg), nor lack of power - mine ran for 130k+ miles, with the last 10k miles showing the CEL. If the sprocket is only slightly worn, then there's no problem - the engine adjusts the timing to...

350 CGI (M72) strange noise at the back

There is an easy way to visually check if the sprocket is worn - look at my response halfway down the page. Note that this issue doesn't normally cause any unusual noises - looked at your videos & my engine did not make that noise even when the CEL had been on for over 10k miles...

    W163 320 - poor mpg - where to start?

I drove two ML320's for 100k miles in total and averaged 22mpg (accurate as I had to keep records for tax reasons, so always calculated brim to brim). It was a curious engine (a bit like the W164 ML350 I had afterwards) inasmuch that no matter how slowly I drove it never bettered 22 mpg...

    e63 AMG Blown Engine

I don't have my Tier 1 Warranty docs anymore, but I am pretty certain that the car had to be serviced at a main dealer within 1,000 miles over if you hit the mileage limit or one month over if it was time based (i.e. you did not reach the miles for a service within one year). I can also...

    Insurance Dropped Me

We had two cars with Admiral Multi-Car & their renewal quote was £1,548 - Direct Line quoted £610. Went with Direct Line.

    Toyo Proxies ST

I put Toyo tyres on my ML after the original Bridgestones wore out. They were relatively cheap and performed OK but had a major flaw (at least on my car) & that was they never balanced properly. They were done on the car and off the car, but the wobble never stopped. Once worn, I changed...

    7G Gearbox & M272 V6 Engine Appreciation Thread

That was my ML. Apart from the timing gear issue, the only other fault from the engine was an oil leak from the back - it was minor so wasn't fixed before I sent it to auction. As for the 7G box, that was atrocious from new with the rough changes but after the valve body was replaced it...

    7G Gearbox & M272 V6 Engine Appreciation Thread

The self-destructing M272 engine and clonking 7G gearbox both suck more than the winner of a sucking competition on planet Suck. Some poor sod is lurching around Manchester in my old ML350 with the check engine light on as we speak :p

Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow

Sweet! Did the baby come with the tyre?:D I ran Wintrac 4 Extremes on my ML350 all year round - the car was totally imperious in the snow, they cost less than summer tyres and they lasted for 25,000 miles. What's not to like:p

    Experiment for petrol CLS350 / E350 / C350 / S350 owners?!

Over 130,000 miles my dearly departed ML350 did 21 mpg - oddly, it never seemed to vary much at all however you drove it.

    Approved used CLS M272 issue

It's a moot point as to what happens eventually - the Amercan forums ponder this and opinions range from it simply not starting to valves hitting pistons. Mine has done some 10k miles since the light came on & the engine honestly seems fine (famous last words). If it wasn't for the fact that...

    Approved used CLS M272 issue

My W164 ML350 has this issue, the CEL has been on since February and it's done 133k miles. First thing to note is that the engine runs absolutely fine, starts OK and does the same MPG as it ever did. However, a CEL is now a MOT fail so it has to be addressed. So yesterday I had the four...

    What’s an ‘Approved MB Repairer’?

I had my rear struts replaced under a Tier 1 Warranty, but note that the boot seals are not covered, so if they leak you are looking at £2k to replace them all. It also doesn't cover any faults with the seats (that's considered trim sir, and is not covered) and I had to pay for a wiring fault...

ABC suspension; a good thing or a nightmare?

The roof hydraulic pump is either above or below the PSE pump depending on model year, ergo water ingress affects both and will be very expensive
