How do I remove the radio in my R170 (2001) SLK. There doesn't seem to be any clearance at the sides for the usual removal tool - or is the tool very thin?

I have an R170 (2001) 230 SLK with Xenon headlights. The car is currently in the UK but I will be taking it to "live" in France. How do I switch the headlights to continental dip?
