    E280 CDI Hissing and nasty smell

    With no prior warning, at the end of a 400 mile journey my E280 CDI was hissing loudly from the rear and smelling of cabbages. The hissing (and smell) persisted for some minutes after switching the engine off. Is this the catalytic converter? Or something else? Thanks for any thoughts.

    Fixed! Managed to fix this myself - used a penknife blade to gently lever the handle and it popped back into position.

    I tried to open the boot without unlocking (or at the same time as unlocking). The handle is now jammed in the open position (i.e. with no "give"), and the catch will not engage. Banging the boot lid down and unlocking/re-locking using the remote has no effect. Any ideas very welcome.

    You could try the old stick-it-in-the-freezer trick. Has worked for me in the past. Put it in a plastic bag to avoid ice ingression.
