key or barrel

Drove car for approx. 90 minutes this morning and noticed the ignition key was v. warm when I took it out. Felt the barrel where the key goes in and it was the same. Is this normal? Couldn't find my keys this morning so used a single spare key where I'd usually have a couple of keys and a...
