While my own car is in the bodyshop for repair, I thought i would up grade the courtesy car (small) to a mercedes c220 d .It's a 2021 saloon . I've spent some time looking for the 12 volt power supply. I've only found a small ,what lookes like a phone sized socket in the rear of the centre arm rest.
Now these cars come with a bottle of tyre sealant and an electric pump , of which is missing from this car , where , if I needed to would I plug it in, or have the newer pumps got a small plug to match the socket in the rear of the arm rest 🤔

Is there not a socket in the load compartment (boot), where the tyre inflator is normally stored? Usually under a small flap. Pretty sure that's where it is in our 2019 estate.

Don't think a USB plug would be able to handle the current.

USB are only 5 volt. Surely there must be a 12 volt supply in the centre console ???

In theory MB could supply a 5V inflator but it would need to pull more than double the current of a 12V one to give the same power, which would be *way* more than a USB socket can handle (IIRC about 5A). So IMO there must be a standard 12V/15A power socket somewhere - in the boot if nowhere else.

Can we go back a bit please , to post #1 . OP you want to make electrical modifications to a courtesy car that does not belong to you ? Or have I misunderstood ?

It's a hire car, a 2021 c22x0d model, it has no pump or sealant, I've got mine on hand just in case, my pump has a12 volt cigarette lighter type plug,
The hire car has no 12v cigarette type sockets at all, inside the boot or in the cabin, I suppose my question is " what type of plug or connector do these new pumps have ?

I can only find a socket in the rear of the centre arm rest that looks like a sc2 type that are used on mobile phones . It has a battery sign next to it
It's not a USB socket

Understood , but that's not your problem , ask for the car to be replaced if lack of 12v , pump and sealant is a problem.

Be aware the rental company could have removed the pump and sealant as a matter of policy . They do not want customers to destroy a repairable tyre with sealant.

Hire companies offer 24hr roadside (yes I know that's the average time you have to wait for recovery ! :p ) and they will most likely quote that in case of a puncture breakdown.

Check the small print .

Well, as usual, I forget to use my eyes with glasses when looking for something.
The 12v power socket i was looking for was right under my nose in the centre console right side just by the cup holder. In my defence, there are no markings at all, and the little black flap is well discised in the blacker hole that also has a wireless charger.
Sorry to waste everyone's time .
It was a puzzle though , well to me, it was :)

Or nick the pump (more likely IMHO!).

In the good old days when cars had spare wheels, a lot of the hire companies removed these along with the jack/wheelbrace (and usually the fag lighter element)
