Aftermarket Radio Died on my 1999 CLK this morning on the way home . Its worked satisfactorily for the last 5 years so got home just about to check the fuse when i thought ah is the cig lighter working ? as its common that the permanent live is sourced from there . So after a false start ,where a power feed connector had pulled apart ( i think I did that when removing the radio ) it still failed to turn on I then double checked my remake of the connection to make sure the power was coming through and got 14.1 volts with the engine running I know a few circuits take the typical alternator " charging voltage " but is 14.1 in this acceptable range ? no point connecting another radio unless this is within acceptable tolerance

That is acceptable and nothing to worry about. It is extremely unlikely to have caused the issue.

That sounds about right for the voltage with the engine running.

It would have to be a pretty crapily-designed radio to get upset by 14.1V...

it's wired to the battery so whatever the battery has in it when the engine is off and whatever the alternator is producing when the engine is running. 14.1v means that you have a good charging voltage and the alternator is doing its thing.
