2006 Vito 639 - 'Door Open' but isn't. And it doesn't say which one (isn't)!

Morning all. Foggy, frosty, etc.

My 06 Vito keeps telling me a door is open, when none of them are.
Intermittent 'meeep' and dash display... annoying. Perhaps more common on left-hand bends.
Have had a quick check around, but can't see any problem.

Anything obvious to look for? Can I clean sensor plates, lubricate anything that might not be retracting or extending in the mechanism.
I'll leave this here and drive myself mad with Youtube experts for an hour, and come back.

Thanks in advance,
George

Well the only suggestion I have is to open a door and see if it comes up on display.

'If' you clean the sensor plates only use a very mild abrasive such as kitchen cleaner. There is a protective coating that is easily rubbed off.

Better is to swap left to right, they will then contact on a different point.

Be sure to tie off the cables before unplugging the plates, it's a bitch to recover the cabling if it disappears down the B pillar.

I had this on my w447 last year. Tried cleaning up contacts but the issue continued. I eventually got my indie to change the part (£12.00) when it was in for a service. Problem solved. ✅

Our '07 has a diagram that comes up showing which one it thinks is open, but it may have a different cluster (multi-function steering wheel).

Very likely it will be the sensor plate for one of the side doors though, probably the left one (assuming you open that the most). I've cleaned the copper contact areas *very* carefully with Brasso a couple of times and that has done the trick ... still using the original plates after 15 years/148k miles. Also check that the spring-loaded pins on the doors are bright & shiny.

Thanks everyone. I'll try the careful contact cleaning first, and see what happens. I also wonder if the push pin behind the rubber seal needs a clean. Next sunny day (okay, not wet or miserable day) I'll get busy with it.

At worst it's a micro switch in one of the lock mechanism's that's gone u/s. Last I read some one replaced their lock for £147 I think.

Except,,, now if your door is left inadvertently ajar, the first you may be aware is when you arrive at your destination without the rear contents.?
