In my wifes C Class the radio is not very good, its FM and loses the signal very easy. Is there an easy fix for this? Can we get a new ariel put on or is there a replacement unit that anyone could recommend that would upgrade the radio to digital?

Many thanks

Ben

Hi.

A few questions....

I take it that FM signal is strong in your area and you have another car (radio) to compare it to?

Has it recently been an issue and better 'before' or always like this?

Do she have a screen aerial or a shark fin etc?

Can you take a photo of the HU in there at the moment?

Has a garage or auto audio business had a look at it?

Hi, the car is new to us, FM is not bad in the area to be honest and the ariel is a shark fin. When the car goes in to have the sub frame replaced we will ask them to have a look. Many thanks Ben

Your car is aka W204 pre-facelift (2007-2010).

The head unit you have is called COMAND NTG4. It's the higher-end infotainment system that has a larger (and motorised) screen than the entry level Audio20 unit.

It also has navigation with the maps installed on an internal hard disk drive. The maps can be updated by purchasing a DVD with the maps data and copying its contents to the internal hard drive (no PIN required, just copy from DVD directly to internal HDD).

The slot at the bottom is an PCMCIA slot, these slots are no longer in use but you can buy a PCMCIA to SD-Card adapter on eBay or Amazon and then use the slot to copy mp3 music files from an SD-Card onto the Music Register in the internal hard disk drive (or just listen to music directly off the SD-Card).

The radio reception might be improved by adding an aftermarket DAB receiver, e.g. Pure Highway 400.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Mark appreciate the help

The shark fin is not the antenna for FM radio. Looks like a W204 car, should have less antenna amplifier issues or contact issues with amplifier to rear window antenna wires.
