2012 BENZ c220 cdi estate tail gate struts

Happy new year all, I have rust showing on tailgate strut rams but it's not causing me problems as the electric open and close works fine.

Have they got hydraulic pressure in these rams or just stabilisers as was going to replace them with non pattern replacements.
