2014 Mercedes sprinter 313cdi, starter motor

Ca the Starter motor be removed from the engine bay, or do I need to be underneath, as got to change one on my Daughters Racevan on a gravel driveway, I can’t even bump start it as it won’t run below 2000rpm, and you can only turn up the steep hill she lives on Doh.
