Hi all. We have just picked up our car, 1st thing was to update the maps so purchased sd card for the car, (same seller as for my GLC)
I went to swap the cards only to find no card in the slot BUT the maps are working showing 2015-2016 maps. The new card makes no difference.
Is my sd card slot the problem?

Did the seller confirm map comparability with your new Comand unit and even your VIN?

Does the unit need an associated firmware update?

Welcome.

Mercedes Benz offer two types of infotainment system for the C-Class: the entry level Audio20 and the high end COMAND.

If your car is a C205, then it will have one these two systems:

Audio20 NTG5*2 with the optional Garmin Map Pilot on SD-Card

Or

COMAND NTG5*2 with built-in navigation on internal hard disk drive

So it seems that your car has the latter rather than the former.

Updating the maps on COMAND is done by downloading the maps data from MB using your home PC, copying it to a USB drive, then uploading the maps data from the USB drive to the internal hard disk drive in the car. During the upload process you will be asked for a PIN code, which you need to purchase (the PIN code is generated so that it's unique to your car's VIN).

COMAND does have an SD-Card slot, that can be used for uploading data or MP3 audio files to the internal HDD, but unlike with the Garmin system, COMAND does not use the SD-Card for navigation.

Ask this lad , all genuine and provides the pin number . Offer him £69 . He'll probably say £79.

That's BS.... the simple answer is that your car (most likely) has COMAND with built-in navigation, and not Audio20 with navigation on SD-Card. It isn't rare at all.... and in fact it's good news, because COMAND is a better system than Audio20.

So a simple fix?

Simple, yes. But not free. Just buy maps for COMAND NTG5*2. E.g.:

Give that lad on eBay your vin number and a picture of your satnav screen and buttons , he'll know which update you need , my 2016 e350 registered in 2017 was a facelift version , he knew exactly which one I needed , I bought it ,installed it , and it works 100% .I went from 2017 to 2022 in an hour .

Wow, when I bought my car a few years ago, £99 would get you an official PIN for the map update, not £199! No wonder everyone turns to the guy on ebay selling the same thing for £89!
Mercedes are having a laugh anyway, my TomTom gets updated for free every quarter with the latest maps, how can Mercedes justify £199 for an update that's already out of date before it's even released?

I run a GLC so tempted to go with aftermarket Android auto as I can't justify 200+ For live traffic updates

Some MB dealers still offer the £99 deal, which includes installation, great value if you can catch it.

To clarify, the PIN codes and new maps do not include the TomTom Live Traffic subscription. It's only the latest maps, nothing more.

To get the live traffic, you'll need to first create a Mercedes me account online, then register your car's VIN to your Mercedes me account. Once you've done that, in the 'Services' section of the website it will show you a list of online services available for your car, which you can then purchase. A subscription to the TomTom Live Traffic service for 1, 2, or 3 years should be one if the services available on this list.

(It is very different to how it works on the Audio20 with the Garmin Map Pilot navigation on SD-Card that you have in the GLC)
