Hi all, looking for advice as I have come across a lot of conflicting information both on forums and from MB.

I need a new battery for my X253 2016 GLC 220D and found better quality offers (Yuasa / Bosch) for half the cost of the battery (Exide) from MB with 5 yr rather than 2 yr warranties that match the same specifications.

Where I have conflicting information is whether the new battery needs coding in or not. MB have said yes when I spoke to parts, but service said no. I have the same issue on forums. I have also found an MB dealership in the USA giving instructions with no mention of coding: 2016 Mercedes-Benz GLC 300 Battery.

Can anyone give a definitive answer?

Just an addendum to this which may , or not, be relevant, some intelligent BMW systems record quality/deterioration of battery, so once replaced need to be recoded as ‘new’ otherwise battery is never full charged!

Would need to check if M-B use a similar concept!

Apparently they say they do, but I've fitted new batteries to 2016/2017 C Class & SLC (OP's car is based on C class, as both of mine are), and they are both fine and fully chargeing. So I would say there's no need for coding at all.
