Interesting video.

Just goes to show how simply regularly changing your oil/ servicing (at the correct mileage intervals) can make your engine last forever!

Wow! Great advert for Skoda, wish they had told you which oil and antifreeze he uses.

Engine has been run for long periods at normal temp, not regular cold starts I think but a credit to all, engine manufacturers, oil company, antifreeze maker but most the owner he serviced it properly and must drive it considerately

I'm going to guess that's a PD "Pumpe-Düse" (unit injector) engine that required an oil meeting VW 505.01 with special anti-wear additives for the injectors- these are cam driven [ there is no High pressure pump/common rail] Its not compatible with DPF equiped cars for that reason. The PD injection system was derived from technology originally developed for commercial vehicles and was particularly robust in operation leading to VAG cars capable of phenomenonal mileages.
Their only weak spot IIRC was the water pump was driven off the cambelt- hence the guy changing the waterpump in the video as a precaution.

Years ago, and I don't know if they still do it, Volvo would give you a Gold Plated Badge if you reached half a million miles on the original engine. I met one once in Aberdeen, an old 240 as a taxi, and the guy drove like Mis Daisy.. but it was still on the original engine. Another Taxi driver that had his Passat B5 Highline regularly serviced by the dealers reached the same but was on his third leather interior (Second hand) ..

My FIL has Octavia with 1.9 TDI, he bought it new, just before PDF was introduced and didn't have any problems during 300K km (186K miles). Mileage is not as impressive but car is still going and will probably outlive FIL.

Posted on here before but my E220 has just clicked over 300k miles, still doesn't need oil between services and still does 50+mpg on a long run and is still running well. Only needed a water pump engine wise at 220k miles. Passed a recent MOT with no advisories.

My previous two both did 312k with no issues, as said servicing and sympathetic driving are key to longevity.

About 20yrs ago in Morocco we had a ride in an old merc taxi. I commented how fresh the interior looked for an old cab..... It had a new interior the year before as it was worn out...a check of the odometer showed a very low milage......... It had Benn round the clock - over 1,000,000 km!! No major failures. Original engine, gearbox and drive train. Just loads of brakes and a few shocks and ball joints.

It was owned by a father and two sons. They took it in shifts to run it 24 hrs a day. Only stopped for refuelling and maintenance.

Very impressive!

Merc equivalent anyone?
My W124 300TE-24 ran to 380,000 miles on it’s original engine ( replaced due to excessive oil consumption , according to service history ) and had done a further 60K on the new engine by the time I bought it , then about the same again in my hands before it was written off in my driveway , taking the car to somewhere in the region of half a million miles . There was a change of odometer prior to my ownership, so can’t be sure exactly.

What happened?
An uninsured driver lost it on the bend 50 yds from my house , took out my neighbour’s fence across the road , then demolished my garden wall , sandwiching my car against my kitchen wall - in a Toyota Corolla .

Ouch.

Who paid for the damage?

I viewed a 124 300TD which had done circa 620,000 miles. A bit of a shocker when I noticed - the ad just said "high mileage" which didn't bother me and for some reason I didn't think to ask. It was the original engine, the owner used it for driving into europe. It drove really, really well - oil pressure was still at 3! I didn't buy because I could see it going crusty along the sills.

There's a well known Lexus LS400 with a million miles on the original engine The Dream Road Trip in the Million Mile Lexus - Driver's Edition
