Well it's taken for ever but looks like my new sport X will be mine on Monday. I can't tell you how much trouble I have had buying one of these vans. I stared back in October last year when my T5 started groaning after nearly 9 years of abuse. Don't get me wrong, it's been a fantastic van and never really let me down but things have started to wear now and the squeaks and rattles are getting a bit much! As VW don't make a proper auto it was sport x that worked.
It all started with a visit to Heathrow Mercedes for a look around and to try and get a test drive, you would think I was asking to borrow vital organs! I'm not going to bore you with the specifics but a test drive was arranged. I turned up on the day to be greeted by a fella on the desk who looked about 13 playing snooker on his phone, after what seemed an age he looked up and said "oh, hi" I told him I'd come for my test drive to which I got a very vague look. Err, what? I repeated my self, sorry I don't know anything about it he said. Mmm, not a good start! Long story short they hadn't managed to get a sport x in so the sales man hadn't bothered to come in as it was a Saturday, not a phone call or anything! After some choice words I left and remembered why I hadn't brought my last Vito from them....
So, still no test drive and no new van to order! Next was Mercedes At Brentford. I gave them a ring and was told that they were the real deal and nothing was a problem so I told them what I wanted and the extras I needed and off he went, he finally came back to me with a price of £45k now that's second hand Bentley money but heyho, I spend most of my time in it so why not. The sales man was very accommodating and would bring the van to my house and I could have a nice long test drive, he would call me later in the week to arrange a time.....
I waited and waited and even waited some more but nothing! I left him a message and he finally got back to me with the usual excuses. But assured me it would be early part of the next week, now you know by now where this is going! Yep, nothing!! I did get a message from him some two weeks later but by that time I'd missed the December slot for the van so that was no 2. I finally went with a dealer in Wales who had actually bid for my business on autoebid. Not only did they do the deal but saved me around 5K into the bargain, which incidentally the last two clowns said there was no movement on....so, my question is, is it really that hard to buy a Sport X in this area?? Don't they want the business????
