SL 500 R230 Vito sport X Brabus
Well it's taken for ever but looks like my new sport X will be mine on Monday. I can't tell you how much trouble I have had buying one of these vans. I stared back in October last year when my T5 started groaning after nearly 9 years of abuse. Don't get me wrong, it's been a fantastic van and never really let me down but things have started to wear now and the squeaks and rattles are getting a bit much! As VW don't make a proper auto it was sport x that worked.
It all started with a visit to Heathrow Mercedes for a look around and to try and get a test drive, you would think I was asking to borrow vital organs! I'm not going to bore you with the specifics but a test drive was arranged. I turned up on the day to be greeted by a fella on the desk who looked about 13 playing snooker on his phone, after what seemed an age he looked up and said "oh, hi" I told him I'd come for my test drive to which I got a very vague look. Err, what? I repeated my self, sorry I don't know anything about it he said. Mmm, not a good start! Long story short they hadn't managed to get a sport x in so the sales man hadn't bothered to come in as it was a Saturday, not a phone call or anything! After some choice words I left and remembered why I hadn't brought my last Vito from them....
So, still no test drive and no new van to order! Next was Mercedes At Brentford. I gave them a ring and was told that they were the real deal and nothing was a problem so I told them what I wanted and the extras I needed and off he went, he finally came back to me with a price of £45k now that's second hand Bentley money but heyho, I spend most of my time in it so why not. The sales man was very accommodating and would bring the van to my house and I could have a nice long test drive, he would call me later in the week to arrange a time.....
I waited and waited and even waited some more but nothing! I left him a message and he finally got back to me with the usual excuses. But assured me it would be early part of the next week, now you know by now where this is going! Yep, nothing!! I did get a message from him some two weeks later but by that time I'd missed the December slot for the van so that was no 2. I finally went with a dealer in Wales who had actually bid for my business on autoebid. Not only did they do the deal but saved me around 5K into the bargain, which incidentally the last two clowns said there was no movement on....so, my question is, is it really that hard to buy a Sport X in this area?? Don't they want the business????

Rossetts Commercials over at Aldershot are pretty good ... M-B commercial dealership of the year x years running. Didn't get my Vito from them but took it there for servicing and they were excellent.

If I hadn't had any luck with the auto e bid then that was my next port of call. I always knew that Greenoaks was a complete joke for my car but didn't realise that this type of snobbery extended to the commercial sector.

The commercial dealerships vary hugely. I went over to the one at Wokingham (now closed) one afternoon, only to find they'd closed up early and gone home! That place looked like Steptoe's yard, too.

I couldn't fault Rossetts but it was a bit of a hike there from Bracknell. M-B Ascot (Greenoaks) are only a mile away and (surprisingly) started doing commercials so I've been going there recently and they've been OK so far.

The SL still goes to M-B Guildford though.

Forgot to say, our Vito was ordered in April and I bought a personalised 07 reg for it. By the time it arrived in September it was entitled to have a 57 plate!

I think you pays your money and takes your chance. I have heard good reports about Guildford but as yet still not managed to get my SL over there, trouble is Slyfield is in the middle of nowhere so what to do about getting back? I sent my CLK into Greenoaks for them to look at my alarm which kept going off. I rang them late morning to be told that it was on the ramp and the techies were on it, ring back in about an hour and they would know more. I rang back as requested to be told that it was more of a problem then they expected and it was hooked upto the Star for diagnostic evaluation. OK, so again I was told to ring back later. We'll as I work in and around Ascot and Bagshot I thought I'd pop in instead. What a surprise, there was my car in exactly the same place as I left it at 9 o'clock that morning so sitting in full view of the show room I rang again to be told the same story by the service manager, to which I replied, funny that as I can see it still parked in the same place as I left it!..........silence.........erm sorry, we've been really busy.....nuff said.........

I'm a bit puzzled - MB Heathrow only do servicing, there's no facility for sales there. As for MB Brentford - I wouldn't go near them!

I think you're referring to Rygor at Heathrow. I know them well. For a period they were clients of mine and what a shower they were! Not at all surprised about the treatment you got. There are some incredible stories about the (ex) sales manager there (who coincidentally worked at the same Ford dealer as me many years before!).

By the way, there will be an all-new MB Commercial dealership opening in Edgware soon. The General manager is an ex-client and friend of mine so service should be pretty good... :)

Sorry, I should have been more specific. Yes it was Rygor. There is a service centre in Thorpe, or there used to be. Just a five minute walk for me. Euro commercials in Wales have been excellent so far, good communication and they have kept me informed every step of the way. So now all I have to do is wait till Monday. I have booked the day off so will be around when it arrives, hopefully the driver won't have thrashed the **** of it on the way here!
