Hi everyone
I have recently experienced a couple of issues with my W212, 9 years old with 106k miles on the clock. A couple weeks ago I was waiting in line at our recycling centre (not relevant) engine running with the transmission in neutral for maybe 3 minutes. When called forward I tried to put it in drive but it appeared to be stuck in neutral. Switching the engine off and then on solved the problem. This morning, the car was covered in snow so I started the engine whilst I cleared snow off the windows. When I tried to engage drive, or reverse, the gearbox was stuck in park. Again, switching the engine off and then on solved the problem. My concern is that this is the onset of something major. Does anyone have any words of comfort?
Thanks

Had same problem with my CLK 7 speed. no warning lights, new electroplate solved the problem.
Thanks slade1. Following your suggestion I’ve done a bit of research online and the symptoms are a perfect match. (Ever since I got the car (at 2 years old from a main dealer) it has very occasionally refused to change up after kick down when accelerating hard. It also, very occasionally, stays in first gear on a morning and needs manual input following which it runs perfectly.)
Out of interest, do you recall how much it cost to have the electroplated replaced? From what I can see the new unit has to be programmed to match the engine software, etc, and can only be carried out by a main dealer.

I'm sure mine had not much change out if 1k but may have had the car serviced too can't remember. Also check if it's the brake light switch. After I had my conductor plate done it started not changing past neutral I think only noticeable when changing from reverse I found if I took my foot off the brake pedal it would work. Never did fix it as mine didn't have a separate switch it was in the pedal assembly so eventually just sold the car but possibly could have been the gear selector too

Either way , you want the cars fault codes read first buddy . Guessing gets expensive

As far as I can remember, it's a few years ago, my indie in Mansfield did the replacement up and running for around £575

The car holding on to a lower gear after hard acceleration and then backing off quickly is normal behaviour.

The gearbox is waiting to see if you wish to accelerate quickly again and will hold the lower gear for a predetermined time.

Much the same problems, some times OK some times not. On cold start up OK and then parked for around 1 1/2 hours not OK.
The car needs to hooked up to STAR diagnostic.
