A/C Compressor location

2012 c220D - had air con regassed around six months ago. Worked fine until this a few days ago. Other day I stopped at some lights and alarmingly saw what appeared to be and small amount of steam or smoke from left hand side under bonnet. Got home 2 minutes later and checked under bonnet, no odd smells or obvious leaks.

Could this have somehow have been the compressor springing a leak maybe?

Where is the compressor / AC unit for the w204..?

Could be a seized compressor causing the belt to smoke.

Have a look at the front of the engine, lower down on the right hand side. Examine the belt for any signs of damage.

You didn't mention if the A/C is still working or, I assume not not....?

Correct, has stopped working in the last few (undetermined) days.

If it was the sepentjne belt wouldn’t this affect the power steering and battery?

It won't be the belt. That also drives the Water pump.

I was not saying it was the belt, more that if the compressor had seized momentarily it could have taken a bite out of it. I had an idler pulley that was on the way out that stripped sections of the belt when it locked up, usually from cold starts.
