The Classic & Sports Car magazine readers were asked to vote on the best supercar, this video's shows the 10 finalists, with the winner being the McLaren F1:

The finalists were:

1914 - 1928 Bentley 41/2-litre Blower
1930s Alfa Romeo 8C
1940s Jaguar XK120
1950s Mercedes 300SL ‘Gullwing’
1960s Lamborghini Miura
1970s Lamborghini Countach
1980s Ferrari F40
1990s McLaren F1 (Winner)
2000s Bugatti Veyron
2010s McLaren P1

Yes, the F1 was a complete change in mindset, it really was an evolution at the time.

For me the most beautiful is the first real supercar of them all, the Miura. It is achingly pretty, particularly the P400SV.

I also have a soft spot for the F40, that was my poster car. A no compromise out and out race car that was road legal.

The Veyron is an astonishing engineering exercise that somehow leaves me feeling a bid meh.

The P1 looks evil, it also looks like it will try and throw you into a tree at the first opportunity.

The only car that I would offer as a competitor to the F40 (even though I would buy an F40 the minute the lottery number came in) is the 959.

It for me was the real predecessor to cars such as the Bugatti. Full blooded full feature supercars. The technology in it was almost the opposite of the F40.

I was lucky enough to get a spin in one on the late 90s, and was blown away with no just the speed but the build quality. Unlike an F40 I've been also lucky to be in (2 easy laps on a track). It's almost kit car in build but more visceral.
