Hi,

Car: w204
Year: 2012
Engine: OM 651
Mileage: 107000

A couple of days ago my car waning lights came on to indicate something wrong with the my abs system. The following lights and indications were shown:-

ABS
Traction Control
Cruise control and Speedtronic inoperative

I am hoping its just a small easy to repair problem after having to replace the stearing lock mechanism which was not cheap. Brake pads seem to have plenty left of them and the car drives as usual but without the abs, cruise control.. etc.

Has anyone else had the same problem or any knowledge of this and could help?

Thank you.

We have the very same thing going on, no signal on left front.
Changed the Abs pick up and still no signal.
Had it on Star and signal implausible left front. Current and stored.
No value on the hub when spun.
Just had the hub off and cleaned the rear hub seal and back together and still no signal.
Next I will change the seal, it does have some rubbing signs on there.

Could be low battery voltage, or ABS or speed sensor, really needs to be checked on Star. ABS sensor replacement not too expensive

just checked the battery and fuses which all seem to be good.

might take mine to the stealers when i can next get it in.

What was the cost of a new ABS sensor? I dont have access to any STAR system or a garage. Just tried to plug in a standard fault code box but that didnt show up anything as there is nothing wrong with the engine as such.

TRW abs sensor £29

OK spoke to the stealers and sounds like they have had a couple of similar cases as they told me what messages had come up before I had a chance to finish. Either that of they are just that good at their job they know exactly what the problem is over the phone. Hoping its just a ABS sensor but they are stealing £85  to investigate the problem. At least I will get a courtesy car from them, not until 24th August :wallbash:

I will let you know the outcome if there is one.

Rather than waiting for a month for the dealer to look at it why not try an Indi near you? Will be cheaper!

I have been bitten by an Indi before. Had 4 fault messages come up and they charged me to replace all 4 of them. Found out that only 1 needed to be changed and the rest were just because of the domino effect and didnt need changing.

Will look to see if i can book it into a another Indi to see what they think.

Experienced something similar, but on an older C63.
It was saying ebd, abs, esp inoperative.
Turned out to be it needed a new ESP control module, which is about 1K

Might not be the abs wheel sensor but the reluctor ring.

It's the toothed (or magnetic) ring which the abs wheel sensor picks up the signal from
ABS Reluctor Rings
They can be prone to rusting...

Ok so far the car is booked in to the stealers 24th August for them to look at. Apparently it’s the earliest time they could get it in.

In the meantime the car is set to go to a mate to have a look at this weekend. I am hoping it’s the “Reluctor Ring” that needs replacing. Good news is that we have full use of his garage, but the bad news is the sign above the door says “Kwick-Fit”. He has done a lot for me in the past helping me out when the steering lock broke and jammed on. Failing that on the 10th August I have booked it into a recommended Mercedes garage just down the road.

Let’s hope this all get fixed cheaply and doesn’t need to resort going to the stealers. I think I have covered all bases. In the meantime there is always time for me to take a look and see if there is anything obvious (meaning a big arrow pointing to an item saying ‘this is broken’).

Had the same messages on mine the other month, took it to an indie(MBTech,Warrington) & they diagnosed front o/s abs sensor.Cost including diag.,part, labour & vat was £158.

This is the ABS ring, it’s the hub seal.
Just about to fit it and hope it works!

All a little dramatic?

£85 is not a great deal for a dealer diagnostic plus you would be getting a car for that and no-one is forcing you to use them are they?

Had a front ABS sensor go on my ML, it was replaced but after 50 miles had same warning lights on the dashboard. Returned to the Indi who discovered another had just gone on the rear! Replaced it and all ok

That doesn't look like a reluctor ring to me, more like an oil seal. The reluctor ring will fit on the driveshaft/axle where the abd sensor is located so the sensor picks up a signal
