I'm currently awaiting a callback from the "service manager" but I've a few issues with the approved used I recently bought and am wondering if anyone on here has dealt with similar in the past.

To set the scene, the car has just had its injectors replaced as part of a recall (that this wasn't done before I bought the car is subject to another thread on here) and whilst the car was in they noticed a large crack in the windscreen right at the bottom in a place that you "wouldn't see unless you were looking for it" (words of the technician). This together with the brakes described as being badly corroded and the front tyres are at their mb limit of 3mm but have cracks in the tyre. I've had the vehicle 3 weeks and had only done a few hundred miles. It's garaged overnight and this crack has definitely not happened since I've had it.

Given that its undergone a "full inspection" before I took it and I've only just been made aware of these issues, what do you think are my rights so to speak? Any advice gratefully received.

Well, if the selling dealership rectifies all the issues, job done & sorted, no?

"If". I suppose I'm just being a pessimist. I've never had a bad experience with mb customer service so we'll see

ask them to rectify the issues

To clarify, I'm concerned that they'll try and say it wasn't like that when we sold it to you, and the brakes issue and tyres they might class as acceptable. I'm wondering exactly what is "acceptable" beyond what the advertising blurb says for approved used

If they dispute your claim. Then simply ask them for proof that the windscreen wasn't damaged and the brakes and tyres were fine before the car was sold to you.

The burden of proof lies with them and not you. They are the selling dealer and not a private sale. You can reject the car if they refuse to put right what is wrong.

Don't waste your time with the service manager, it's nothing to do with them.

You should speak to the sales department who will need to tell the service department the repairs can be done and to bill them for it.

If it gets to the point where you need to kick off, or preferably you give them the impression you might, doing it front of potential customers is much more effective at getting a positive response than in front of service customers who will just think you're trying to get something for nothing.

You might be on a sticky wicket with the windscreen if, as you say, you can't see it unless you look for it which implies you wouldn't know if it had happened since you've had it.

Thanks folks. I'll try and get a picture of the crack (it's lots of smaller ones bunched together) but it's the kind of one you'd absolutely know if it happened whilst you were in it! I might call up the sales manager I dealt with initially then. I'll let you know how it goes

I understand you concerns but don't jump the gun as they may sort out the issues, as it sounds very like the car wasn't inspected by the Service dept prior to sale. Hope you get a favorable result.

Just to update you all, spoke to the service manager eventually who asked me to bring it in. No fussing required, just a firm but polite request. It gave me an excuse to visit crufts today so didn't mind. Windscreen will be replaced, tyres and brakes are at preparation standard and the brake condition as decided by the dealer that fitted the recall was checked and rebutted by them. I'm happy if I'm honest. The brakes seem fine and the tyres look fine and ill get a good 8 months out of the 3mm that's on them. Thanks for your advice and help
