The other half bought a amazon alexa echo auto for her car . it has a aux jack plug for it to run through her car stereo . subscribed to amazon now she can have any track at any time albums etc . Now i am thinking of getting one for my car but I dont have a aux jack plug im guessing it will connect through usb or bluetooth ? 2017 C Class . any thoughts ??

The Amazon selling page has links to check car compatibility

Presumably it is tethered to your mobile data plan?
yes but you can have up to 6 devices on one plan according to amazon so the other halfs echo auto is running off the home plan !!

well thats me blown out of the water !! as the site says not compatible with C class 2014 onwards ...apparently all new mercs in the USA have alexa installed in the infotainment system .. its was a good idea but its data stick for me

I think DSM was referring to your mobile phone data plan, as the Alexa unit tethers to your phone for internet connection?

yes internet data plan off the apple iphone short journeys wont make much difference to the data plan but if you want specific tracks or albums you have to pay amazon 7.99 a month we have up to 6 devices off one account so its a winner

Technically no. It's just a Bluetooth connection to the alexa app on your phone. All in all a bit crap in my experience.
I think you misunderstood my post.

By tethering I was referring to the way the Alexa device accesses the Web to stream music.

No, I understood perfectly. Unlike the rest of the echo family, the echo auto doesn't connect to the internet. It just interfaces with the Alexa app on the host phone.

It's a sub par experience, especially if your phone has over zealous memory management and kills background apps in which case you end up having to unlock the phone and open the Alexa app for it to connect.

You may as well just stick with hey Google or whatever on the phone itself. Mine lasted all of 3 days before ending up in a drawer and I'm a fan of Alexa in general with devices in most rooms.

So how does it stream music if it isn't connecting to the Internet?

Are you saying that all music must be downloaded and stored on the 'phone first?

Why not just install alexa on your phone and then that will play through the cars stereo, issue you will have though is if its just the free music that comes with amazon prime only 1 device can play it at a time

I love mine, my old CL has no Bluetooth or aux, good fm transmitter and alexa auto in the ashtray.
I tried three fm transmitters until I found one with no static.

A quick check shows this....

"Alexa requires an internet connection. In your car, that means it has to use your phone's cellular data connection. Asking simple questions doesn't use a lot of data, but using Alexa to stream music can eat through your data plan"

So, clearly you didn't understand how it works.

It connects via the mobile 'phone as I and others have said previously to stream music to

The device itself doesn't connect directly to the Internet but it must have such a connection by the host device.

Obviously it uses the phones data. As I said, it is the phone that does the streaming. The Echo Auto is just a Bluetooth interface to the alexa app on the phone.

We know precisely how it works I and others have said as much earlier.

You are just arguing semantics.

The Alexa device is nothing more than an interface between the app, the Internet enabled device and the car music system.

Life is too short to try to educate people who are just argumentative so you can sit on the ignore list so I will not see any more of your content. 👍👍

No, your posts clearly show you have no idea what the Echo Auto does and good it works, but yes pop me on the ignore list and save us the effort of going around in circles.

I’ve got one of these in my current car, and I think it’s a great piece of kit.

Not having to touch my phone to listen to diff radio stations, resume Spotify etc is a game changer.

The other half has one in her car we did a 4hr drive up north using alexa music her monthly data allowance was swallowed up after an hour of driving lol !!
