I Have the Performance Pack on my SL63 AMG. It had it as a factory fitted upgrade option.

One of a number things that the PP brings is larger front rotors and an increase in the restricted speed from 155 mph to 186 mph, plus a modest boost in BHP.

I recently had the car serviced at MB Canterbury, and subsequently discovered it was speed limited to 155mph not 186.

Does the Performance Pack bring the higher speed limiter by rights? Should MB Canterbury have reflashed the ecu with the AMG firmware to give a speed limiter of 186mph?

They seem reluctant to remedy the 'problem'. Saying that 155mph is the standard firmware for the UK. I don't know what to believe.

Thanks,
Rob

If it's the same as the E63, then the Performance Package (option code P30) raises the power and includes other bits & bobs, but doesn't raise the top speed.

The AMG Driver's Package (option code 250) is the one that raises the top speed limiter from 250kph to 300kph.

Go to an indie with a STAR. For a modest price they will temove the limiter completely. After all it is just an electronic limiter.

So that means you drive a 63 AMG that (in top speed) is no faster than my 11 year old C55 AMG.

"...The Horror..The Horror...." :-)

And both are only 10 mph faster than a 2004 C200 Elegance (petrol)

Makes you wonder why AMGs are so popular these days :dk:

(Tongue firmly in cheek)

I looked very seriously at supercharging when Acid first got the kit. He was offering attractive introductory deals.

However, having driven the R231 I found the power delivery to be a bit flat. Admittedly we are talking stock power, but my R230 has one of the last MB normally aspirated engines and it revs so freely. It's a different driving experience to a SC'd (or bi-turbo R231) engine.

Sure, I could get another 100 bhp, which given the fact that I currently have a piffling 540 bhp (Tuned) would be a big help on public roads ;), but in the end I decided to save my £12K and look at niffy wheels or perhaps a minor tweak to the exhaust noise?

Sounds like a plan! :thumb:
