Android Auto strange issue

Good evening hope you all had a great new year....
Anyway I hope someone can share some light on this
I just bought a 2019 EClass convertible fully loaded beautiful motor from main dealer few weeks ago , anyway it has android Auto and car play brilliant as I use this for Spotify and few other apps. The port is at the front by NFC . It only seems to work if the lights are on auto or manual but lights have to be on . Now if it's day time port won't detect my phone turn lights on manually side or head lights work flawlessly ... If I leave it on auto and it's day time won't detect nothing no beep to say charging or anything .
Is this right or not anyone have same issue ?
2019 EClass 220d convertible with burmister sound system if that makes any difference if anyone has had this issue or no's how to fix it so it works with out turning lights on manually or waiting for it to turn dark so auto lights turn on tha be great ..any thanks Steve ...

How do you mean "The port is at the front by NFC"? Are you saying that you can have Android Auto via wireless connection?

If so, then you probably have some sort of third party adapter fitted, because - as far as I know - MB only support Apple CarPlay and Android Auto via USB cable connection.

Good morning... No the android auto works by usb so I plug my phone into the usb via type c connection , it only seems to works if the lights are on side or head lights strange thanks

My 2015 E class does not support Android Auto but wifes 2017 GLA does have it so I would expect the OP's car to have it. You have to connect the pjone via USB c cable into the DATA socket, not just the standard one used for charging phones etc

Hi I have a total of 3 usb 2 in the center console and 1 in the front the 2 in center console are for charging and usb sticks and these do not support android Auto the1 in the front is android auto it doesn't support wireless android Auto I have to use usb type C but it only work if the side lights are on or head lights if I leave the lights on auto and it's day light port doesn't work or doesn't detect my phone if I manually turn the light switch to manual ie side lights or head lights the usb port works and if it's left on auto night time the auto lights activate and usb works ie android auto works strange. I wouldn't of thought summer time I have to turn my lights on to activate the front usb port to get IE android auto to work ... That makes sense .... Thanks

As you bought it from a main dealer a few weeks ago maybe take it there and ask them?

Sorry to answer a question with a question but how the hell did you find that you needed to turn the lights on to activate android auto, I mean it is the last thing you would do if you had a problem with it, good luck with garage I hope they sort the issue out for you.

No I have no power to the usb port when plugged into the USB port for the android auto when I turn lights on or it gets dark IE auto lights switch on I have power to the port starts charging and android auto starts ...

Hi slate it was strange as it was only working at night and in the day I was trying different leads thinking this was the issue tried 3 different types still nothing tried wifs iPhone still nothing just turned lights on and it worked . It's booked into MB for stop start not working on 16th so I'll tell them about it it's under warranty with them so I'm hoping they sort it...
Just wanted to ask if anyone had a issue with the usb port at the front working only if lights are on ...chears steve

I can only guess that someone did some work in the area and incorrectly wired the USB port to be powered from the dash lights (that come on with the external lights). In fact, this explanation could make sense if the Android Auto option was a retrofit that required the USB port to be replaced. But it's just a guess.

Hi mark ..the model of mercedes is e class 2019 AMG line premium plus fully loaded with the burmister sound system this high end model as standard android auto and car play so weird that it only works with lights on .. I'll mention it to MB SEE if they can sort this but yes crazy..

I wouldn't automatically assume that just because it's the highest trim level, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto were standard and not optional.... MB are not known for their generosity

But I don't actually know. Good luck with the dealer.

Ok I'll give MB A call tomorrow booked in on 16th to look at start stop that hasn't worked since I had it ,they can look at the usb issue as warranty with MB so hopefully they can sort it ...thank youfor all your comments with this , I'll keep you all posted atwith what was wrong maybee this has happened before so a simple fix thanks for all info kind regards Steve

It's best if you take the car to the actual MB dealer that you bought it from, or at least to another branch of the same dealer network.

The reason is that there's a difference between the MB Approved Uses warranty, and the supplying dealer's obligations under the Consumer Rights Act 2015.

The MB Approved Uses is less comprehensive (in a nutshell) than your statutory rights under the Act.

Hi yes it's going back to main dealer as I've only had it a few weeks the stop start hasn't worked since I had it ... Battery think so they can look at the usb port so they can sort that too .

This is a known issue. We've fixed a few, although one had same symptoms but wasn't that and needed a new head unit. - so if you have MB warranty, see them

Hi Richard oh my... Thank god for warranty with main dealer I've only had car for 3 weeks so yea they can fix it free thanks again
