I've been looking at some fourms and you tube demos of units being used as Media cetres and air play devices.

They look quite neat? you can get a tiny box that it lives in also.

Raspberry Pi

size wise would be ideal for a car computer.

Not quick but seems to run XMBC quite well and this will only improve as more geeks write specific stuff for them :)

Yup been playing with one here for just that purpose. runs a treat from a 12v->usb 2a adapter I have for charging in the car.Currently looking into hooking it into either the canbus or EOBD ports.

There is a pretty cool retro media centre build here on the retro rides forum.

I haven't bought one yet but will be doing.

It would be ideal for a car computer, you could also use it to add some sensors ie EGT and so on and monitor the temperature for you.

Ive been thinking full car computer too, in fact as all switches in the merc are electronic you could replace the whole of the center console for just a screen and a pi behind it, wire up the canbus to the GPIO pins and program away!

I got to the top of the waiting list about 3 weeks ago, only another 9 weeks to go til it arrives now:)

possibilities are quite endless, connect up switch gear, complete entertainment hub.. videos, music, nav, camera's, anything you can think of really.

Just bought one, going to create a Street Fighter II arcade cabinet :D

haha great idea :) I link mine to my alpine head unit and watch films, ran hdmi and micro usb power ot the glove box. can set up an ad-hoc wifi if I had the time so can use the yatse/xbmc app on phone to control it :)

I've just had an apple pi(e) and it was very nice.

I'm hoping Santa will bring me one for something to tinker with.. actually, it'll be an excuse to buy the oscilloscope I've got my eye on (many times more expensive than the Pi, actually) :D

Cheers,

Gaz
