Hi,

I recently used the readaptation features of Carsoft on my W202 1999 C230k.

When trying to start the engine after, the engine stated, but the throttle pedal did absolutely nothing and the engine idled in a very rough manner.

Immediate thought was PANIC...IVE BLOWN THE ECU !!!!!!!!

I tried putting the car into drive, moving it forward on idle and then into R and doing the same....still no joy.

I tried restarting the car and attempting the manual throttle reset procedure, still no joy.

I then plugged Carsoft back in an rescanned the engine and all sorts of errors popped up. I then used the readaptation function a couple of times more and all of a sudden the car was back to normal again.....PHEW !!!!!!

I quickly unplugged the laptop and it hasn't been anywhere near my engine since !!!!!

Has anyone experienced this over here and any explanations ?

I know this has been encountered on Benzworld.org but no real explanation as to what happened and how to get out of this situation.

Any ideas chaps ?

Sounds as if you disabled the electronic throttle actuator somehow?

A Star can do those things too.

The throttle flap just needs a re-set thats all.

The Carsoft stuff just does not tell you that. To reset it just leave the ignition on for a few mins.

People with Star Diagnose always tell people not to tinker. It is not because of jealousy but rather that some things are best left alone. That goes double for non-original tools.

People often comment that the "have" want to keep the "have not" in the dark for commercial gain. It is unfair to say such things about anyone who gives large amounts of information on a public forum - then the warning goes unheard because it falls outside the "gimme gimme" requirement.

So it's a case of "I told you so" and a good box of "raspberries".

If you need a computer to fix it - It's too new !!
A big hammer and a screwdriver - are very nice and uncomplicated.

Am I turning into a snob????
Cheers

Gave me a fright 1st time I did it :(
Start car, let idle whilst it sets throttle parameters.
Sometimes you need to stop and re clear codes.

Just out of interest Bazzle, when you are hooked up do you back up the cars power supply so that the system does not crash half way through

No

I connect straight to battery and probe the 38pin plug.
