Had a hell of a journey choosing winter tyres for my car and trying to establish what is actually MB approved (so that insurance remains valid and for no other reason) came to the conclusion that according to my car manual only 225 55 R16 are approved even though according to VIN decoder my car was sold with 17" wheels (R11 LA 17" 5 DOUBLE SPOKE DESIGN).
I attach a scan of a page from facelift E-class manual that clearly shows (though perhaps incorrectly) that 17" tyres and wheels are only approved for cars with either sports suspension or Airmatic DC suspension. My car, like most E320CDIs does not have a sports suspension or Airmatic. Therefore the manual implies I am only approved to drive on 225 55 R16 even though the car came with 17" alloys!
Is there a mistake in the manual? Or are 17" wheels that most E-Class Facelifts were supplied with are actually not approved for most of the cars they have been supplied with (including two cars in my family)?
