Aston Martin Lagonda Vantage

That came up in the suggestions on my Youtube a couple of weeks back, I watched it then. I enjoy watching his stuff, along with Harry's Garage & a few others. I remember those coming out in the mid 70s & it blew me away as a 7 year old boy. But time hasn't been kind on them imo, that said those wheels seem to really suit it & give it a bit of a lift. I'd still want to own one, I'd just be a bit paranoid about the electronics side of things lol.

I worked for Aston Matin in the late 70s early 80s. These were an absolute nightmare to drive, such a long low sweeping bonnet and visibility to the back was awful. I had to collect a customers car from a multi storey car park behind Oxford St and was a nightmare trying to negotiate the bends and the ticket booth. The dash board was entirely made up of printed circuit boards which were always temperamental and costly to repair.

TROUBLE with "bespoke " models is every one is built slightly differently --tech modifications are often done "on the fly " during production to address teething problems meaning that changes from original technical spec/drawings may not be fully documented but only reside in the heads of the engineers building the cars---if they go/retire --so does the knowledge!

The Lagonda was my favourite car in the 1984 Observers’ Book of Cars 1984 (or was it 1985?). I read that book every Saturday morning in WHSmiths until I could finally afford to buy it - and I still have it! In fact I have two because I bought another from eBay, just because I could. Sadly the Lagonda is still out of reach 😁

Described in some detail in this book

they evidently had to make 4.7 cars per week just to break even!

I saw this in Bath recently , not a Vantage but looked fantastic , never seen one in the wild before..

My claim to fame is that I “sat in one” in the early 70s. My brother did work for the guy that imported them in SA (House of Sportscars) I knew teh owner & I happened to work across the road from the showroom (on the opposite corner was the only RR dealer in Jo’burg).

My lunchtimes were spent drooling in that (HSC) showroom.

I love these! Growing up in Hersham I would often see them at HWM (Hersham and Walton Motors) alongside the V8 Vantages and Volantes etc. At that time they used to have one of their Grand Prix cars in the showroom as well.

I had many a ride in Astons of all variants and the Lagonda was my least favourite. It looked at odds with all the other models and IMHO rode like a Austin Ambassador, which, to my eye, it also resembled ...
