I've recently purchased an 'eMotion' device from Celtic Tuning, that allows users to add and remove remaps themselves throught the OBD Port.
It came with both 'economy' and 'fast road' maps, and you can switch between these two and the original map as often as you like (eg. return it to original prior to MB service).
The intention is to try and improve the economy on my wife's B180, which has been struggling to average 40 mpg, despite her daily commute being 40 miles of motorway and 5 miles urban, each way, each day. I was also hoping it might make the engine 'a bit more refined', as it seemed to do this on my 2.2 Civic, and the B180 could certainly do with a smoother engine.
Typically the warmer weather has also arrived, as well as more miles on the engine (now 4,500), so some improvements could be down to other factors as well as the remap.
We tried the economy map first for a couple of weeks, and it averaged 43, but with no noticable performance benefit. We've now tried the performance map, and it's early days (just one week), economy (not surprisingly) has dropped back to 41, but there is a signifiant power boost, and I for one find the car a lot more exciting to drive.
I can see that, even though the economy will be unaffected, she will want to keep the performance map in place, but i propose that we try the economy one again, after a month on the performance map. I'll publish the results later........................
