Well, the old Astra has gone :(

Had it for just under a year - cost me £500 with 5 months tax and 11 months MOT.
Sold it for £450 with 12 months MOT, tax to the end of May.

I used to do about 440 miles to a tank full, cost about £40 to fill up. Did about 6000 miles in it.

Six months tax £100

MOT / oil & filter change/3 wiper blades came to under £100.

Insurance, can't remember, but around £120

So being pessimistic, say £600 for fuel, £50 depreciation and I've run a car for a year for under a grand.

So price to change to the W124
£290

Lets see what THAT costs me for the year! (where's the smug smiley) :)

Well removal of the chrome arches will cost nothing! ;)

I hate to say this but...............

I like them

Ducks and runs......

Well in that case, you're going to need a big star for the grille, and an AMG badge for the boot. :D

So the costs are beginning to mount up...

you only say that as you're scared about what lies behind them!

congrats on the car!! bargain at any condition!

I have a W210. I would need them to hide what's visible. Can they be painted??

I think my 300TE has cost me about £100 since purchase (excluding road tax/fuel). That was for a thorough service when I first bought it (oil/filter/plugs/air filter/HT leads/cap/rotor arm/wiper blade) and £35.00 for a new window regulator. To be fair, it doesn't get used all that much, but has done a few longer runs - it's been very reliable, comfortable and useful!

If you're looking at your E220 as a bangernomics car, I'm sure you could run it quite cheaply.

Best of luck,

Will
