Hey,

I was hoping to go to Belize or Roatan, but it's just not in budget.

I've therefore been considering Tulum, however, I'm not sure if it's a bit overrun by hotels? From looking on the web it seems as if it offers everything i want
- chilled
- lovely beaches
- good diving/snorkelling
- adventure (jungle trekking, etc)

But the web also seems to suggest that there are A LOT of hotels there. Is the coastline turning into Cancun in Tulum?

Or will it be quiet enough this July?

Any recent travellers thoughts would be greatly welcomed.

Thanks
R

Currently Mexico is a full blown narco state...
Would worry more about kidnapping and shooting then over crowding of hotels...

Last week drug cartel related shootings in the tourist areas of Acapulco and Tijuana..

Mexico's high crime rate is causing a loss of attraction by most American tourists...which is why Central America is getting expensive....

Not saying you'll have any problems, but tourists are beginning to pay for "safety" by taking holiday in Central America...:thumb:

Natal in Brazil is great, the centre is overrun with the touristy stuff for the northern europeans but 10 miles either side is quite sedate.

I was there in 6 years ago in November. It was a lot quieter than Cancun at the time.
Beaches are nice, very chilled (back then)
No idea about jungle trekking.
As for scuba diving / snorkelling I took a trip from Isle Mujeres however the reef we dived at was a bit dead. Although the fresh fish bbq on a small island was pretty good.

Hope its of use

Chris

In 1983 I spent 6 months in the jungles of Belize, didn't see one hotel:dk:

Be aware it is hurricane season.
