Boot Lock Fault

2003 W211 E320 CDI
Error message 'Right number plate light'
Both lights working fine, but the boot wont open via the boot handle.
Opens fine from the key fob and the interior switch.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated

On the W211 there is a little micro switch attached to the handle mechanism that gets toggled when the handle is pressed.

Unlock it via the key and make sue it still unlocks with the handle this way as there is a cable attached to it too.

Take it to bits and then check the micro switch and wiring.
