Oh Sh!t! I'm awfully sorry; I've given you the wrong part number - A164 740 1178 is the big continuous seal that goes all the way round the entire opening. Doh!

The 'seals' you are referring to are not separate; they are edge trim strips bonded to and part of the black plastic trims - D Pillar Covers - that run down each side of the tailgate opening. These are the part numbers for powered and non-powered tailgate versions:

There's one here: MERCEDES ML TAILGATE TRIM REAR LEFT PASSENGER SIDE A1646901530 W164 2009 | eBay

And one here: MERCEDES ML 350 TAILGATE TRIM REAR RIGHT SIDE A1646901630 W164 2011 | eBay

Both of those are for the power tailgate.

And one here: MERCEDES-BENZ M W164 A1646931933 A1646932133 Other Trim Parts 3.00 25636915 | eBay

And one here: Mercedes Benz ML W164 Abdeckung Hecksäule Hinten Rechts A1646932033 A1646932233 | eBay

Those are for the non-powered tailgate.

I've no idea what the cable on one side is, but it looks as though it's there in the second eBay item.

However, I very much doubt whether these are the reason you still have water ingress around your light cluster; the side trims are cosmetic - they are not meant to prevent water getting to the rear light clusters in the first place, otherwise the clusters would have trims down the rear wing sides as well.

There are rubber seals where the mounting bolts at the front of the clusters go through the wings, though, so a little water might get in there too.

Did you use OE MB gaskets, or cheapo-cheapo Chinese knockoffs, when replacing the gaskets last year, by the way? You never know...

Good luck tracing the leak.

Hi mate I just received the rubber seal and yes it was the wrong part 🥴 I was talking about the little rubber which goes with the plastic trims the same ones in the eBay link you sent me but just wondering if I can get just the rubber’s and not the plastic trim as they are in good condition. I will keep the other rubber anyway . Here’s a couple of pics , i just noticed that the water is getting trough the rear lights but I’m gonna make some gaskets myself as the oem ones are cr@p.

The rubber seala along the edge of the trims are not sold separately, I'm afraid.

I've just replaced the seal on the RH rear cluster, brand new from MB Newcastle; just had a cloudburst and the poxy thing is still letting in water. Time for some more sealant; LOTS of sealant...

I think I’m leaving it like that because I don’t want to replace the whole think also I’ve noticed that the water was getting in in the rear lights as the oem gasket is cr@p I just made some gaskets myself from a rubber seal from an industrial washing machine and sorted the problem. Rained loads last night and the boot was dry I’m very happy now. The problem of the water getting in is because there’s just one bolt on top it should be two. Here’s a pic of the rubber that I made myself also a bit tick than the oem one .
