Heard about this being quite common on BMWs but wondering if anyone has had the same in their Merc ?

If I change direction, lets say from reverse into drive - apply the brakes - sometimes makes a loud clunk but then silent every time after that.
Put the car in reverse, apply the brake - loud clunk - then quiet each time after that.

So basically the first brake after shifting direction ( forward or reverse ) sometimes makes a one off clunk when wont happen again until the next change in direction.

Difficult to tell whether it's the front or rear.
I fitted Brembo pads and new sliders to the front about a month ago ( with a small amount of ceramic brake grease ) Definitely right parts as I cross referenced the OE numbers from what was fitted on the vehicle from factory.
Rears are genuine pads from about 8 months ago ( cleaned them up and reapplied some grease which seems to have helped somewhat )

A friend of mine who knows cars said it’s actually pretty common — the brake pads might have a bit of play inside the caliper, so when you change direction, they shift slightly and make that one-time clunk. Nothing to worry about safety-wise.

Thanks. Yes after some reading it appears normal.
Here is a video explaining it;
