c180k
Hi all I have been looking at an 03 c180k to buy
it is a 2 owner car with full history 114000 miles
and my question is are the 1.8 engines anygood and what
should I look for other than the obvious
many thanks:thumb:

180k engines are fine and will take high mileage if looked after, apart from the obvious listen to the supercharger bearings if they are noisy then it could be a potential issue, not sure if the Valeo radiator issue affected these cars but you don't say if its manual or auto. Can also suffer from poor wheel alignment so if there is any uneven tyre wear it will want 4 wheel laser tracking, also there are reports of indicator stalk problems but personally never seen it. Make sure it has air con or you will never be able to resell it, spec and ride of base cars is really poor.

Oh yeah and don't forget the rust but i'm sure you knew that :D

Hi all oh well took the plunge and got a C180K pick it
up later this week seems a nice car just glad to be
back in MB

looks nice well done and welcome back to the fold :thumb:

The 1.8 M271 engine's suffer from cam chain problems . The single chain stretches and can jump teeth damaging valves and cam gears . It could be wise to have the chain replaced to avoid this happing

Only on high-milers, surely?

replaced 35k ago as tensioner broke so you know the rest

c180k to buy or not to buy

hi, we have 2 one with 45000mls one with 116000mls just had crankcase breather pipes replaced on 116000ml one £300, have to take compressor off so don't know how you will check if that's been changed, wont show up on diagnostics otherwise both good cars

Take the rocker cover off and check the condition of the timing gear teeth also you could take an oil sample and send it away to see if there is metal wear particles
