Hi i am new to this club and just got my 1st merc after owning a bmw, i got it off a mechanic who tells me its had lots of tuning work done, its a c200 cdi and its had a c220 engine dropped in it, its also got a larger intake manifold than standard, had the dpf removed and remapped and beleive me it is very quick im also running it on v power diesel, my question is that when i floor it there is a large cloud of black smoke is this normal ?

I personally thought the 200 and 220 engines were the same with different software, only the 250 upwards being different

Black smoke may be the fact the DPF is removed? Not sure how that removal effects what's visually coming out the exhaust

thanks for replying it had that engine cos the old one died, allthough i am the shop floor manager of a bespoke exhaust company ive never owned a diesel car, we have removed dpf's before but somebody else has done the rest of the work

220 and 250s have twin turbos on the w204s, but the same basic block. Not sure about any other differences.

black smoke = unburnt fuel, map overfuelling, may be worth a rolling road visit for a decent tune, as mentioned, dpf removal isnt going to help either.

thanks do i just enjoy the power for now and not worry about the rear view mirror and how much is a rolling road tune up

thinking next year maybe putting a 2.5inch stainless system from manifold back jigging it up at work and selling them to different specs using my car as a tester

Hence the photo!

Photo was blank earlier, I only commented thinking he had the same car (and year) as mine, had I known the older shape I wouldn't of known the answer or posted haha
