C63 coolant level question

My (W204) C63 has just started telling me to check the coolant level. Doing so has me somewhat unsure whether it needs a slight topup though.

The manual talks about it "being at the level of the marker bar" when cold. But my marker bar has a black top half and a white bottom half. Is it supposed to be up to the border between these? Or merely up to the bottom of the marker bar overall?

Currently it's about an inch below the bottom of the black, but is covering the bottom of the bar.

I presume - since the car is telling me it's low - that it should be to the black, but I don't want to overfill.

Thanks for any help.

I had exactly the same issue with mine last week, must be the weather. I worked on your assumption of between the border of the 2 halves was right and I rang the dealer to confirm - all good now so I must have been right!

Lovely, thanks. I will top up the miniscule amount that is missing then.

Yes - with the cold weather, and the tiny drop, I have assumed that it was simply due to contraction of the water in there rather than a leak.

As you say, such a small amount made the difference! - I assumed I'd have to put loads in but actually only a little drop!

You should not be able to see the clear part so its just in the middle where the plastic is black.

Also like others have said cold weather can make it drop slightly but on mine it turned out to be a thermostat when the car only had 15k on so if under warranty get them to check it.
