The connector in my armrest looks like it will suit an old mobile like a Nokia 6230. Is there a converter available for a modern phone? I don't want to change my head unit as I have comand and a 6 disc changer. My car is a E320 sport registered in Nov 2006.

Yes, a Viseeo unit will enable you to call and use the Comand phone book to store numbers/names. These are hard to get hold of if you have the curly phone cable inside the armrest which uses the older MB3000 unit.
You probably have the UHI connector in the arm rest that take an MBU-4 Viseeo but this can be confirmed with Commandonline who stock the units. Plenty of these on eBay if Commandonline are out of stock.
There are other more expensive methods (Fiscon and HPF adaptor) of connecting modern phones which they can advise you about.

Call them with your Vin# handy so they can advise.

If the car is a 2005 or newer it will have UHI.

Viseeo products have not been manufactured now for about two years so any you find will be old or second hand. Personally id stick with a Mercedes HFP adapter which will give you the integration you are looking for. Be careful if scouring ebay as lots of 2nd hand HFP's are old and dont work with newer phones.

It all depends how you define "fit." A 2006 W211 was designed in the early noughties and constructed in 2005/6. Which is long before the first iPhone reached the market in 2007.

You can "fit" a phone to work easily enough. You can fit a phone to integrate to the speakers and wheel controls easily too (although TBH it'll still be clunky.
Pay extra and you can install some quite clever bluetooth and SIRI integration, pay even more and you can even have Apple CarPlay (see below)

It all comes down to requirements. What do you actually want to do (make calls, play music / podcasts, stream Spotify etc etc) , and how much are you prepared to put down in warm fivers??
