whilst driving my c200 cdi se 3door it sometimes cuts out, and in an instant it restarts itself, can happen at any speed, and if happens at night lose the headlight as well, everything goes blank then all dash light etc come on, and car restarts as if nothing is wrong

Total guesses buddy , but do you have heavy keys hanging on the car key ?
Are the battery connections tight ?
There may be a fault code logged for whatever is causing this .

Worry checking the above as stated.
It may be an intermittent fault in the Electronic Ignition switch, possibly a fault in the key.
Do you have another key to try?
I would strongly suggest going to an MB Specialist and getting the car scanned with Star, read a genetic OBD reader will not be sufficient for this.

Did you ever solve this? My 2007 C220CDi auto has done the same thing twice this evening, doing about 50mph the dash lit up like a Christmas tree and it then restarted immediately. The ESC unavailable message came up for a few seconds. It then cut again a few seconds after that, and restarted immediately. Earlier on in the day it had cut while manoevering in a car park, and restarted straight away on the key.
