CL500 C215 2004
Hi all.

I’ve recently discovered a strange issue with my electric sunroof on my beloved CL500.

When I go to open it, it opens an inch or so and then stops, so if for example I want to open it half way I have to keep pulling back on the switch over and over to get the sunroof into position.

Weirdly it closes fine as long as my finger stays on the button.

But then the problem arises again if I want to tilt the roof open, again I’m have to repeatedly press the button 3 or 4 times before its fully tilted as it keeps stopping.

I have swapped out the dome light assembly for a fully tested and perfectly working one, but the issue is still there, so I don’t know if the issue is wiring or mechanical?

The other thing I’ve noticed is that the inner sunroof blind/shade seems to catch on the sunroof as it closes and gets dragged along with it.

Any ideas would be gratefully received.

Many thanks.

Kindest regards.

have you recently changed battery? if so, they need calibration after reconnecting the battery.

Thanks for your reply.

I haven’t changed the battery unfortunately, when the car is parked at home I have it on a trickle charger all of the time too.

With regards to recalibration, do you know how this is done, is it something I can do or does it need to go on Star?

Kindest regards.

ok, looking at your older posts and the fact that you need to trickle charge it, save yourself the time and replace the battery. The way you calibrate it is after you connect the new battery you need to:
  1. Open and close all windows all the way up and down a couple of times by holding the buttons
  2. move the steering wheel all the way to the left and then to the right a couple of times
  3. open and close the sunroof all the way by pressing and holding the button a couple of times

There has been a very odd sporadic issue with my car since I’ve owned it in that something is causing a power drain to tje battery if the car is stood more than 24 hours. It was traced to the Dome Light so I changed it but the issue is still there. I have a feeling its something to do with the wiring too the dome light.

However, the Sunroof has always worked without an issue until recently. Again I thought it was the Sunroof switch in the replacement light, so yesterday I fitted another fully tested and working Dome Light but the problem is still there.

I have no idea whats causing it.

The battery was tested last week and its absolutely fine, it cost over £200 and its only been in the car 18 months.

ok so if the battery is fine then the parasitic drain is reducing your voltage, even causing modules to switch off. If you have a diagnostic, you will see all your modules reporting a historic error that the voltage supply was below 12V.
Parasitic drains are a pain to pinpoint. I can only wish you good luck. Someone with tons of experience and a STAR diagnostic should be able to find something.

...Could be a case of over current shut-off.

Check for diagnostic error codes.

I owned a CL many years ago. Had errors even for a faulty mirror adjustment mechanism)
