Hi,

Appreciate this is for Electric Mercedes owners, but wanted to add my experiences with my 2023 CLA 250e Shooting Brake plugin hybrid that I bought this time last year.

I have a home charger on an off-peak tariff so running costs are very low and as most of my journeys are under 40 miles, these are driven using electric. Purchased the car on a PCP as even now the value for these cars is still unpredictable, so this way it fixes the end value so no worry in 3 years time if real values bomb.

Car is quiet, comfortable and fast enough for me. Not bothered about the Renault engine that’s often mentioned as it’s an engine, and as long as it works that’s fine by me!

The SB is useful for carrying stuff about, but the hybrid does reduce the amount of space in the boot, but knowing the seats knock down solves any issues transporting stuff to the tip or cases for holidays

Servicing is typically overpriced at MB dealers, so I took out a 3 year service plan (£35 per month) that covers 3 services, brake fluid change at two years, pollen filter and MoT when due.

Technology is good and a lot better than my previous car (Audi Q4) that I’m sure I was a Beta tester for the software that was clearly underdeveloped and caused a lot of issues. A feature that is missing is the ability to set a specific start and stop time to charge the, but as I can use the Pod Point app to do this it’s not an issue.

And as I experienced with my Audi, some dealers still lack knowledge about the car and its features, but things are improving slowly.

One ongoing issue is the boot lid opens if I have the key fob in my pocket and bend over or pick something up. There is a MB fix but they want £150 to update the key fob software and no one else other than a MB dealer can do this!

So happy with the car, and moving to Plugin hybrid has proved for me to be good decision. Would be good to hear how other owners are getting on with their plugin hybrids.

I really like the cla shooting break - some people say it looks a bit slug like, but I think it can look quite pretty.

My parents were looking at getting a c300e hybrid as we only have a short commute and sometimes go on long trips to the continent. The fear is what happens if anything goes wrong with the battery. Have heard some horror stories with other cars about their hybrid systems.

My godfather has a BMW 3 series hybrid and when new would get about 50 miles of our electric and now he would be lucky to get ten.

Would be interesting to know how they will be reliability wise in the future.

Hi, yes I was initially concerned about battery life, especially as I’d also read horror stories about the replacement cost. The MB hybrid battery warranty is 6 years so hopefully it maintains a decent range until I sell the car. I charge to 80% in the summer, and as the range drops in the winter, usually 90% or 100%. And a few times I run the car in B mode so the engine does the work.

Yes I think that is probably the way to go about it - it does rely on you being the first owner though ideally. If we were to buy one it would probably be three years old.
