Clk55AMG
Hi All,
New to the forum,

I recently bought a clk 55 AMG 76000 miles
Checked service history and as a result changed the plugs/leads/original fitted Mercedes parts/k and N air filters,
The old ones were solidly blocked, and gearbox oil service, 2 litres in it instead of 4
Car seemed to be running fine from my limited experience but now runs/sounds even better,
Only problem I have is in low gear seems to stutter/hunt until drops a gear then flies,
It doesn’t happen any other time, I.e during acceleration, just at low speed,
It has improved since I changed the parts I mentioned in that it seems to select the lower gear a few seconds after the issue occurs, it may sound silly but not being a mechanic I thought it may be a characteristic but seems unlikely,
Apart from that the car runs great if a little juicy, it was showing 11 mpg at one point and I don’t know if it’s my exhuberence with the pedal, looking around the internet I was thinking could be the fuel pump/filter,
Any clues would be helpful

Hello and welcome . Not sure what you mean by '2 litres in it instead of 4 ' ? Your gearbox holds 8+ litres . Who serviced it and where did you get the service kit from ?

Do you mean the K&N filters were fully blocked and you removed them and fitted MB (Mann+ Hummel) ones ?

11mpg is nasty ...but achievable !! ;)

It sounds great 👍 did you fit KN filters? Personally I would stick with mb parts.

On short local journeys my SL averages around 14 mpg with relaxed driving so you’re in the ball park 😉 overall average is around 20.

If you’ve only dropped the pan and filter 4 litres is about right. You can’t drain it all that way.
I’d be looking at MAF. Would fit with high consumption, running rich and stuttering.
Can’t decide if it had K&N or you fitted them. Oil from them can destroy the MAF. Don’t use them imo

Get the fault codes read.

I think he means the gearbox oil sump only had 2L in it instead of the near 4L it should have had in it ?

Thanks for all your replies,
They were k and n filters in it and I fitted new matching filters as they were so dirty,
Local mechanic changed the gearbox oil for me he’s good mechanic used for years
Said the gearbox oil was like engine oil and had drained only 2 litres
I will ask him to check MAF and with any luck solve the issue,
If 11 mpg is normal for my driving then it’s worth it,
They definitely got something about them
Also have a 435d I haven’t touched since I bought the 55
Worth mentioning that the history says ECU upgrade as well and cat removal ,
Thanks again
