Clockspring?

Hello,

I own a CLS W219. My steering wheel controls including horn have been working intermittently.

I went to a Merc independent dealer and told this is likely the clockspring.

There are no fault codes and when connected to STAR the buttons don't work.

However, I am thinking it could be the SCM? Need reassurance it's not, presuming STAR would pick up on SCM faults?

I've just ordered a contact spiral for a great price, but your help would be appreciated.

Thanks and MERRY CHRISTMAS!! HO HO HO

Thanks in advance.

Had that go on my W210, no fault codes, just no horn and airbag warning light.

Just looked on EPC.

Looks like the only wired connection is from clockspring to SCM, then there are no looms towards the buttons??

Must mean loose wire from clockspring or corroded connection on SCM?

I want to do this myself, but bit scared. Have read a few peoples posts who have changed the clockspring.

Also it may be just a corroded connection and surely would react to some WD40?

I am guessing my SRS light is not on as the looms for the airbag bits are ok? Read SRS comes on if clockspring. Merc independent said it doesn't always......all v confusing!
